Too often urban design is understood as development feasibility, and the critical elements of urban structure become an afterthought to it. Laura Harding from Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects shares a recent project where Landcom’s Design Excellence processes created an opportunity to revisit the critical cultural role of urban structure.

About the speaker

Laura Harding is an architect and urban designer at Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects, where she has worked for more than 25 years across a broad range of architectural and urban projects. She brings extensive experience in design, urbanism and the relationship between architecture and the city.

Laura is also an accomplished architectural writer and critic, with her work regularly published in Architecture Australia, The Guardian Australia, The Saturday Paper and other publications. She was awarded the Adrian Ashton Prize for architectural criticism in 2013.

She has taught and participated in design juries at Sydney’s leading architecture schools and is currently a member of the NSW State Design Review Panel, National Capital Design Review Panel and Western Sydney Airport Metro Design Review Panels.
