2026 UDA Favourite Urban Place – Town Squares
The Urban Design Association NSW is excited to announce the 2026 poll to find NSW’s Favourite Urban Place is now open. This year, we’re celebrating Town Squares - public spaces at the heart of our towns and cities where people gather, meet, move through and spend time.
What is a town square?
A town square or plaza is a public open space defined by surrounding buildings or streets, designed as a civic place for people. They can be historic or contemporary, grand or intimate, and often have an important civic, cultural or community role.
The shortlist
Our 14 shortlisted town squares represent a mix of metropolitan and regional places across NSW, spanning different scales, histories, uses and urban settings. We’ve selected places that are accessible and recognisable to a broad audience, while showcasing a range of urban design qualities.
