The fine print

  • By “civic” laneways, we mean laneways that can be used by both vehicles and people, and are brought to life in some way — they might have shops, seating, loading zones, homes, public art, great lighting, or other personal touches.

  • Anyone can nominate a civic laneway.

  • You can submit as many laneways as you like.

Civic Laneways (clockwise from top left): Loftus Ln, Sydney; Globe Ln, Wollongong; AMP Ln, Albury; Ash St, Sydney; Clarendon Pl, Burwood; Llankelly Pl, Potts Point.

What is NSW’s Favourite Urban Place?

Each year, the UDA runs NSW’s Favourite Urban Place poll, inviting the public to vote for their favourite streets from a themed shortlist of 20. It’s to celebrate our great urban places across the state — as voted by you.

This year, we’re shining a spotlight on civic laneways. From gritty charm to tranquil moments in the city, civic laneways can be the hidden gems in our urban environments, laneways can be powerful public spaces that bring character, connectivity, and surprise to our cities and towns.

What happens next?

The UDA will use your suggestions to create a shortlist of 20 civic laneways. Anyone can vote on the shortlist in October, and the winner will be revealed in November!
