Architecture vs. The City
Architecture versus the City' appeared in AMC No 14 in 1986 during that magazine's peak period under the editorship of Jacques Lucan. lssue No 14 was a special issue on contemporary urban housing ln France, which was guest-edited by Christtan Devillers. It featured texts by Huet and Devillers, an interview with the philosopher Henri Lefebvre, and housing projects built by Henri Cirìani, Henri Gaudin and Roland Simounet for the new towns around Paris.
Bernard Huet has been and continues to be one of the maior figures in French architectural culture since 1945. Largety unpublished and little known in English-speaking circles, Huet's influence derives from his teaching, research and criticism since the mid- 1960s. Only now, as he approaches sixty, has Huet produced a significant body of built work. lt includes the remaking of major Paidan places such as the Champs Elysees, the new square around Ledoux's Rotonde de la Villette, the new park at Bercy, and a number of housing projects, including a scheme executed in association with Aldo Rossi at La Villette.
